Brunswick No. 1 was dispatched to a CO alarm activation call today. On arrival units investigated very high readings in the building. The cause was found to be an outside vendor working in the building who left his truck running. CO, also known as Carbon Monoxide is often called the ‘silent killer’. It is colorless, odorless, and non-irritating. Exposure to moderate levels can lead to illness and higher levels can lead to death. If your alarm goes off or you think you have a CO problem exit the building immediately and call 911 immediately. Be sure to mention any signs if feeling sick or ill to the 911 operator. Do not stop to open up doors or windows. Doing this will make it harder for the fire department to find the source of the problem.
